Sept. Cp Carson frequent inspections to eliminate all unessential equipment for movement overseas - new equip issued - rumors flooded the camp as to destination - Cp Kilmer most prevalent - up early last morning - everything clean & bare - beds - walls - entire barracks. Waited for trucks - full field packs with horseshoe - rifles - gas masks etc. - waited at station for hrs. finally boarded train - NY Cent. - concluded we were going east. - Bob & I together as always - packs in washroom. Helmets on hooks & under seats - Bob & I shared lower birth - enjoyed quiet nights of riding & talking - Chicago - so close to home - Pittsburg at night - lights of city & steel mills impressive - Wash DC - could see capital & Wash monument in distance ??porter?? made off with ??saved money?? - Lt. Gave us peppermint patties Arrived at Kilmer am helped unload equip. fr. train. Ate well at Kilmer - good PX Pass to NY Bob & I went to Radio City to see "Rockettes" dance in the evening. Good to see NY again - phoned Weinburgs but they weren't home. Bought film for Bob's camera - plenty of film by this time |
