house later used as C P. - General visited bn commanders - tank knocked out, Gun and truck coming with chow for Jerries that had hastily pulled out - dug in as best we could amidst fallen treetops used logs for overhead cover - improved hole during morning with door for roof. - moved forward about 500 yds - rain poured - soaked to the skin - hard digging - 88's now and then. instructed to be ready to move after officers reconnaisance. A Co. to lead bn. our 2 squad plat. to take first of a group of houses. 3rd to move on to next two & 1st to take remaining two - stiff resistance expected - method of attack decided - offered to fire bazooka. - late in aft. A Co. meeting heavy resistance - uneasy about taking houses after dark - waited. twilight - volunteers wanted to remove A Co. casualties Nelan & I decided against volunteering. - Call for more men to help A Co. - felt ashamed so we went. - down steep canyon past rr tracks up precipice. met stragglers coming back - shelling going on worried walking back & lying around waiting for stretcher bearers. Six men required on one stretcher |
