Many slaughtered animals right in the barns & carved meat from the carcass. Apr 24 Things are more organized now. Nobody can leave the camp without permission. All who do will be court marchalled for desertion as well as risking being shot by the Russians (?) - Evening - what a lot of baloney. Norm & I took off thru a hole in the fence, as hundreds of others have done today, and we went to Muhlberg (about 3 miles from here. A store house was in the process of being looted the the time. Peas & flour covered the floor. Jam buckets were stacked ten high. Tins of meat, cheese & milk were abundant & everyone had his fill. Even civilians were wheeling carts home full of food.
