July 13  Tour of ship from engine
room to bridge - 150 yds from 
bow to stern.  Cargo of 8,000 tons
displaces 10,000 tons - weather
overcast. Speed av. 11 knots
Evening sky is dark & sea is
rough. Things rolling & tossing
quite a bit.
July 14  Good weather all day -
rain in evening. Spend much
time sleeping. All excited
thinking about home. Time
is dragging.
July 15  Weather clear but cool
& windy. Beautiful night
quarter moon shining on water
July 16  Water choppy - great swells
by evening. Ship pitching
like roller coaster. Hard to
stand upright. Whole ship
vibrates when propeller comes
out of water. 
July 17  Still rolling - more
from side to side can 
bearly walk upright along 
deck.
July 18  Ocean calmer - still
overcast nothing to do
but read all day &
